ETYMOLOGY // BEETROOT (BETA VULGARIS) — THE ROOT OF ALL THINGS BURGUNDY TO SURFACE // EDITION I
Named after the beetroot: because the root is the origin of everything above ground.

Every category-defining company begins at the root of all things.

beet.vc is named after the beetroot—a taproot that concentrates all of its energy, structure, and deep burgundy pigment underground long before the surface sees a harvest. We don't showcase a portfolio yet. Instead, we built the tactical root system for founders: live dilution and runway instruments, clause-level term sheet defenses, and unvarnished zero-to-one manuals.

Advice in prose is easy to nod along to and ignore. Use these four calculators to model your cap table dilution, burn multiple trajectory, product-market fit honesty, and cold outbound density.

03 // ROSSETTA STONE — THE VC-SPEAK TRANSLATOR CLICK ANY PHRASE FOR PLAIN ENGLISH + COUNTER-MOVE

What Investors Say vs. What They Actually Mean.

Venture capitalists are structurally incentivized to preserve optionality ("never say a hard no"). Use this decoder to protect your calendar and extract real signal.

"You're a bit too early for us—let's stay close." PASS // LOW CONVICTION

Plain English: No firm is "too late-stage" when they believe they are looking at an outlier. "Too early" means you have not yet proven the specific risk they are afraid of (usually founder-market fit or organic customer pull).

COUNTER-MOVE: Ask "What specific milestone in the next 60 days would turn this into an immediate partner meeting?" Put them on your quarterly high-signal update list; do not take monthly "catch-up coffees."
"We are doing deep thesis work in this space right now." CAUTION // COMPETING DEAL

Plain English: There is a 60% chance they are either actively diligence-ing one of your direct competitors or fishing for free market architecture from three founders before picking one.

COUNTER-MOVE: Share your macro view and high-level traction, but never hand over your customer pipeline spreadsheet or proprietary unit-economic playbooks on a first associate call.
"Send over your data room and financial model through 2030." STALL TACTIC // FALSE DILIGENCE

Plain English: At Pre-Seed or Seed, a 5-year spreadsheet is fiction. Asking for heavyweight diligence artifacts before a Partner has expressed thesis excitement is how firms buy time while watching your round dynamics.

COUNTER-MOVE: Reply with a crisp 1-page unit economics cohort summary and say: "We open the full customer data room once we've met with the sponsoring GP and aligned on round parameters."
"We don't lead, but put us down for $250K once you find a lead." ZERO SCARCITY // PARTY ROUND

Plain English: Contingent commitments create zero momentum. Worse, if you tell a prospective Lead Investor that your round is "half-filled with followers waiting on a lead," it signals that nobody had the courage to price the round.

COUNTER-MOVE: Offer two choices: "We are closing a small tranche on a $12M post-money SAFE this Friday for conviction believers; once a Lead prices the round, the allocation is reserved for the Lead."
04 // THE BEET.VC CREDO — EARNING THE RIGHT TO INVEST OPEN ACCESS // NO WARM INTRO REQUIRED

"Why doesn't beet.vc list any portfolio companies?"

Because we haven't made our first investment yet—and we refuse to fake gravitas with borrowed logos or vague platitudes. We believe a modern venture firm should prove its utility in public before it ever asks a founder for allocation on their cap table.

Whether you are raising tomorrow, bootstrapping forever, or already backed by Tier-1 funds, every tool and monograph on beet.vc is free, un-gated, and built to help you keep more of your company.
